Vietnam Mission Trip
Students from Wollondilly Anglican College get the chance bi-annually to embark on a mission trip to Vietnam. Led by Boomerang Adventures the trip not only has the purpose of providing a unique social and cultural experience, it also has a strong focus on community service – through the involvement of students and staff with a three-day building project. This takes place at two different locations in a local community. The ‘build experience’ enables the teams to work through various challenges, develop a shared sense of purpose and form a strong team bond throughout the project. At the conclusion of the build the teams are able to meet the local family who would eventually live in the dwelling after a ‘hand-over’ session. A strong sense of accomplishment and also gratitude towards members of the local community for their support during the project is felt by all.
The main areas visited throughout the trip are Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta and Hoi An. Some highlights are visiting the Cu Chi Tunnels, exploring various cottage industries, the War Remnants Museum, bike riding through the buffalo fields on the outskirts of Hoi An, participating in a hands-on Vietnamese cooking class, climbing the limestone hills known as ‘Marble Mountain’ and the ultimate street market adventure.
