Secondary Teaching & Learning

German

German is taught at the College from Year 7 through to Year 12. Naturally students learn the German language, but they also learn about German food, culture and festivals. Year 7 build an Osterstrauß (Easter tree) and a gingerbread house (a traditional German Christmas tradition). Year 8 make Fasching masks and enjoy a German breakfast. Elective students cook German recipes and work closely with our German exchange students. There is a lunchtime German Club for students who want to practise their German further through fun games and activities, such as baking traditional German foods.

Students at Wollondilly participate in a number of German competitions. The College consistently ranks 1st in German in NSW in Language Perfect Competitions. In 2017 the College ranked in the top 5 schools practising German in the Language Perfect World Championships. In addition, our students have received numerous Credit, Distinction and High Distinction awards in the Australian Certificate of Language Competence.
